George Romero has been working to get money for his next Zombie film, ‘Dead Reckoning’ (AKA Twilight of the Dead) forever. Literally, forever. Anchor Bay were supposed to be working on getting the money for it together, but Romero has been pretty vocal about their lack of effort. It seems, however, that an 11th-hour deal might have come through, allowing Romero to make a full-on NC-17 gorefest with an 8-figure budget.

But Jairus, you say, this stinks of bullshit! Who would put up so much money for a zombie movie?

To the skeptics: DeadReckoningMovie.com.

This is gonna be good.

(In other news, Roger Avary is doing a commentary track for the next Day of the Dead DVD release, and William Gibson got a weblog!)

An excerpt from an article regarding the relevance of the deaths of Dee Dee Ramone and and Ratt guitarist Robbin Crosby, who died within 24 hours of each other.

“The reason Crosby’s June 6 death was mostly ignored is that his band seemed corporate and fake and pedestrian; the reason Ramone’s June 5 death will be remembered is that his band was seen as representative of a counterculture that lacked a voice. But the contradiction is that countercultures get endless media attention: the only American perspectives thought to have any meaningful impact are those that come from the fringes. The voice of the counterculture is, in fact, inexplicably deafening. Meanwhile, mainstream culture (i.e., the millions and millions of people who bought Ratt albums merely because that music happened to be the soundtrack for their lives) is usually portrayed as an army of mindless automatons who provide that counterculture with something to rail against. The things that matter to normal people are not supposed to matter to smart people.”

Re:

Amber snowflakes, black sky, and empty roads.

2002 in review (it rhymes!)

Got involved as a consultant in the Canadian Copyright Reform process.

Got fucked by roommates, lost my house (with a few thousand dollars in lease-breaking fees to go along with it), my job, and my (then) girlfriend in the span of a week.

Decided to move to Kitchener/Waterloo. Decided not to.

Moved to Ottawa. Met, fell for, and moved in with Leslie.

Turned 23. Best birthday in memory.

Found an angry duck in a public fountain. Named him Honkey.

Got a job. Signed a lease for a new place. Moved in with Leslie and the coolest roommate I’ve ever had.

Got back into DJing and Promotion, putting serious effort and hours into ‘the scene’, such as it is.

Had Krispy Kreme. Twice.

Got a tattoo at the first event Leslie and I both worked on. Bought and built a bigass 5-part 2-wall bookcase.

Hit Daniel Myer with a snowball.

Figured out where I want to be. Made the decision to do whatever it takes to get there.

The single most depressing post I’ve read all year.

“I am 15 years old and am on Prozac too. The doctor says there is no chance in hell for me to get off the drug. I have been on it since I was 12. My mum is on it too. How can you not feel normal?”
