I ran across this site which is trying to make an archive of every 120 Minutes playlist ever aired on MTV, and I was completely floored by how fantastic they are. I know how much music television and radio sucks now compared to ten or fifteen years ago, but actually seeing how bad things have gotten makes me want to curl up and die.

Remember when you could watch TV and find out about great new music?

  1. I used to constantly tape videos from 120 minutes when I was like 12 or 13. I always discovered new music that way. I do miss it. I can’t even turn on MTV now. Hell, I don’t even think they know how to play videos anymore.

  2. *nod* it all fits in my theories about the narrowing of mainstream music and the effects on the underground…i should just write a damn book :P

  3. The first O’Conner album is so amazing. The Lemonheads make me want to scream everytime I hear one of thier songs. I feel the same way about Urge Overkill as well.

I did get sick of “Beds are Burning” after about the 5th time I heard it.

  4. fuck I wish someone would slap the people in charge of mtv’s play list and replace them with you at least for a day. I would have a tape in the vcr and have happy video taping day. I miss the boring summer 1996 sitting at home and taping music videos oh well dwelling on the past only seems to get me into trouble. Cheers to the good old days of music!

  5. you know what I did when you first posted this? I didn’t think think how today’s playlists are crap or what-not. No, instead I frantically looked up discographies for the first list because I can’t believe that it’s been that long. I’m a sad, sad monkey.
