  1. Wow, that’s a lot of friggin’ police officers! The article says that it was ‘peaceful’, but how peaceful can being ejected from your home be? It would tear me up. So sad :(

There’s quite a few make-shift dwellings around here. Even where I live, in Asokoro (the land of embassies, governor’s lodges, and other overly massive dwelling places), there are shack-like houses scattered about. Unless they own the property that they are living on, these families risk being evicted.

And it all makes me wonder how we stay grounded in a world that’s so very upside down …

  2. THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT NINJAS.

    THIS IS A DISGRACE.

    FALSE NINJAS, PIRATES IN DISGUISE!!

Where are the real ninjas when you need them? :|

  3. Paraphrased:

    Living costs money.

That’s why it’s called “living expenses”

If you can’t pay for life, you shouldn’t live.

Let’s hear it for social inequity.

  4. The current Danish government is very right-wing, and is looking for any excuse to shut down Freetown Christiania. There was a raid (Denmark’s largest-ever) a few months ago on the trailer-and-tent section of the city, and over a hundred people (~12% of the population) were arrested under new zoning laws which were passed solely to be able to arrest Christiania residents.

It remains to be seen if the city proper will survive the current administration.

  5. Denmark has a very broad minority coalition government, with 7 or 8 different parties holding seats in parliament. The last election was this year, so it remains to be seen how things will shake out.
